Instructions for Airbrush Tanning

Preparation before the Tan

1. Exfoliate your skin at least 8 hours prior to your appointment time. Use a loofah sponge, scrubbie, exfoliating scrub, etc. Avoid products that have a heavy oil base (too moisturizing) or those with extremely rough salt (too drying to the skin.) You can make your own sugar/salt scrub by adding regular table sugar/salt to a shower gel.

2. Shaving or waxing should be done a minimum of 8 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time.

3. Do not wear any moisturizers, deodorants, or make-up on your skin when you come for the tan. These products may act as a barrier to the tanning solution when applied and your tan may not turn out correctly. In some instances, certain deodorants can affect how your tan develops under the arm, therefore it is best not to wear any or wash it off before coming in for the tan.

During & Immediately following the Tan
1. What you wear depends upon your comfort level. You may want to wear your own swimwear or bra and panty, if so, please bring them along. We do provide disposable undergarments, or if you prefer, you can go au natural. FYI: We do not tan the palms of the hands or the bottoms of the feet.

2. We recommend loose, dark clothing and undergarments to wear after the tan is completed. The cosmetic bronzer may rub off onto clothing, however, it does wash out of most fabrics. Please be aware that it can stain finer fabrics like nylon, silk, satin, and leather.

After the Tan
1. DO NOT shower for 12 hours after your tan. This is the length of time the tanning solution will actively develop on the skin. If you shower prior to that time, your tan will not fully develop and/or will not last as long. Please note that you will see some color wash off when you do shower. Do not be alarmed, this is the bronzing agent in the solution and it is not your tan.

2. Until you shower, please avoid activities that could cause perspiration. Avoid getting any part of your body, especially your hands, wet. Perspiration and water can wash away the tanning solution from your skin before it has had time to develop. This could cause your final tan to be uneven or the color may not fully develop.

3. Please note that drier areas of the body, such as ankles, knees, elbows, and heels can become darker then you would like. If you find a spot is too dark, simply exfoliate the area using regular table sugar, as this can lighten the area. Or, lightly swipe a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol over the area to rub off some color.

4. Daily application of a body moisturizer/lotion will help your tan last longer. Avoid lotions with AHA (alphahydroxy acids), a natural skin exfoliant or one with a lot of alcohol, which can dry out the skin. Moisturizers with self-tanners can be used, however, use them at your own risk. We cannot be responsible for the color that develops when another product is applied on top of ours.

5. Please be aware that natural skin exfoliators, such as sand, salt water, and chlorine, will shorten the life of your airbrush tan. Please remember this if you are planning a visit to the beach or pool.

6. Please note that an airbrush tan is a cosmetic coloring on the outer layer of your skin and it does not offer any SPF protection from the natural sun. To avoid a sunburn, please remember to use a sunscreen when outdoors.
